Carter Center launches eye surgery for 750 in Kapoeta South

The Carter Center has launched a free trachoma and cataract surgical campaign in Kapoeta South County, Eastern Equatoria State, on Monday, targeting 750 patients.

Joseph Napuyo, acting director of Health for Kapoeta South, stated that the 12-day campaign, organized by the Trachoma Control Program (TCP) and supported by the Carter Center in partnership with the Cure Blindness Project, will run from April 16-27, 2025.

“There will be free medication for those who have come for the service, there will be free surgery, there will be also health education for free, they will be transported to where the surgical team is. So, no one will be left behind,” Napuyo stated.

The campaign targets 500 cataract and 250 trachoma cases, offering free eye surgeries over a specified number of days at Kapoeta Mission Hospital.

County officials stated that staff members have been trained and deployed to local communities to identify and register patients for the surgeries.

Napuyo also encourages people from neighboring counties with eye problems to visit the center for exams and treatment.
