Calm returns to Ikwoto after civilians, soldiers clashed

Security forces have been deployed in Ikwoto County to restore calm after clashes erupted between armed civilians and some security personnel in the area on Sunday.

Eastern Equatoria state Minister of Information said two people died and another was wounded during the incident. Some grass-thatched houses were also burnt.

“As we are talking right now the situation is calm. We have sent some forces to the ground to restore calm,” said Patrick Oting Cypriano.

He called for restraint among the civilians and armed officers.

The state government said it is investigating the cause of the fighting.

On July 13, unknown criminals torched three houses in Lorema village of Tanama Boma. A few weeks before that, the home of the Boma Chief was also burnt to the ground by unknown arsonists.
