Police in Lakes state have launched an investigation after the body of a 19-year-old lady was found hanging from a tree on Sunday night in Bunagok Payam of Awerial County.
According to the state police spokesperson, Major Elijah Mabor Makuach, the body of the girl was found hanging by a rope on her neck.
“This is what we are going to investigate, and I can’t give you any detail now because the primary information we hear may turn to be a rumor. So, we need first-hand information from the direct relatives,” he told Mingkaman FM.
Major Mabor added that there has been an increase in the number of unexplained deaths similar to suicides in the area. In February, a 10-year-old boy allegedly killed himself.
He appealed to humanitarian agencies and religious leaders to increase counselling programs to reduce trauma among young people.
