The Rescue
Medical Center CEO, Muki Johnson John, from the border town Yei, Central Equatoria
State, was discovered deceased on Wednesday.
On October
24, 2024, his Juba-based family asked the public for assistance in locating
him.
His family
says Johnson vanished in Juba on Friday, October 18, 2024, and his last
sighting was in a white Nissan Fuga with the registration number SSD 498BF.
That day, he
left his house at Kuburi Aboba for a bank to withdraw money for his medical
center.
On November
20, Muki was found brutally killed, and his body was disposed of along the road
beside his car, along with some documents.
The executive
director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization says the
killing of Muki is a threat to the private sector.
“We need to
see a serious investigation, and the investigation must be in a transparent
manner. Those behind the assassination of Muki should be held accountable, and
there are a lot of opportunities for people who are carrying out the
investigation to take advantage of the communications; those who called him at
the last minute before he disappeared, those who posted threats for him, and
those who are against him should all be questioned,” Edmund Yakani said.
According to
Yakani, the death of Muki has sent a message to the government that the safety
of the private sector or business community is not secure.
“Because
somebody who's innovative like Muki Johnson can be murdered in that manner,
what is a guarantee that other business owners and other members of the private
sector are safe?” He questioned.
“That is a
big question before the leadership of the country. Such are potential people
who can provide an answer to what happened to the life of Muki, and the
assassination of Muki is a threat to our private sector.”
Yakani
suspected that those behind the killing of Muki are individuals of higher
authority.
“I have a
feeling that the people who might have been behind this incident of
assassination of our brother Muki Johnson are not individuals of low power, are
individuals of higher authority; they might have eaten the money of late Muki
Johnson, and they found themselves ashamed if they were to be exposed and
unable to pay the money,” he argued.
He adds that
the death of Muki Johnson is a potential threat to the business community in
the country.
He appealed
to the law enforcement agencies to strengthen their capacity.
In a separate
development, Yakani also conveyed condolences to a girl of 19 years old who was
sitting for her final exams in Ladupayam and found assassinated to hang to
death.
He said,
“This case of the lady should also be investigated. Something is going wrong.
There's a class of individuals who are more powerful who have taken the law
into their own hands and are now challenging the function and the existence of
our state and our government by murdering our own citizens in a lawful manner,
and they walk away with it without being held accountable.”
Yakani
reiterated to the leadership of various security institutions to see that they
demonstrate their responsibility as enshrined in their various mandates for
providing safety, security, and protection for citizens.
“We are
waiting for information in a transparent manner, and we are waiting for our law
enforcement agencies to hold those behind the assassination of Muki Johnson and
the 19-year-old girl in Ladupayam accountable,” he added.
