Aweil youth demand justice for molested minor

The youth union leaders in Northern Bahr, El Ghazal state, have called on the government to expedite the investigation for the pending case of 11 years girl allegedly defiled in the suburb of Aweil suburb by one of the traders in the mid of this month. The police say they have arrested the suspect for the alleged sexual abuse, and the investigation is ongoing. Some youth representatives say they want answers and call on the government to expedite the investigation and deliver justice for the victim.

According to Police, the suspect was a neighbor and allegedly lured the victim to his house and sexually abused her on 12 February 2023.

The family did not immediately discover the abuse until the minor developed reproductive health compilations and was rushed to the state hospital, where doctors revealed that she had been sexually abused four days earlier.
Reacting to the matter, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Youth Union chairperson says they have written a letter to the state government demanding justice for the little girl.

“What happened is paining us a lot because these children are the ones to replace us in the future, and it is not good to mistreat them like this,” Tito Awen Bol told Akol Yam FM on Monday.
He warned that the youth would stage peace demonstrations if the government failed to meet their demand.

In response, the state police spokesperson Capt. Guot Guot Akol acknowledged receipt of the letter. He says the police are working hard to ensure that all legal procedures have been followed and justice is implemented over the incident.

“We know everyone is not happy about what happened, but I still want to urge youth to remain calm and wait for the people doing the investigation to conclude it,” he stated.

There have been reports of molestation in the area. In 2022, a local court sentenced to death by hanging a Sudanese national for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl before killing her in Aweil.
