
A father has been taken into custody by police in Aweil
town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, on suspicion of killing his three-three-old daughter.
The incident occurred in a remote village of Yomkac in
Nyalath Payam, Aweil Center County, on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Ajith Deng Agith, 40; and
the deceased, Aluet Agith Deng Agith.
Police reports state that the father allegedly returned home
drunk, causing a quarrel and resulting in the child's tragic death.
“When the wife responded, he got frustrated and jumped on to
the mosquito net under which the wife was sleeping with the child,” said Maj.
Ding Garang, assistant inspector of police in Maper Akot Aru.
“The woman escaped unharmed, but he stepped on the child's
chest, killing it instantly.”
He added that investigations are ongoing, and the accused
will be presented to the court upon completion of the investigation.
Garang also urged the public to refrain from excessive
alcohol consumption, as it can lead to destructive consequences.
“I also want to tell the public that drinking alcohol is not
good. Without drinking, this incident could not have happened,” he added.
