Some people with special needs in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State are all smiles after they received tricycles from a charity organization.
The donation of 97 tricycles by the Achai Wiir Foundation was made in collaboration with the state Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare in Aweil town on Tuesday.
One of the beneficiaries – Atong Mayom, 34, and a mother, says it had been difficult for her, especially whenever her children fell ill and needed to be taken to hospital.
Each tricycle reportedly cost $1,600, bringing the total amount spent on the 97 to $155,200.
“From today onwards, I won’t have to face difficulties of taking my sick child to the hospital,” Ms Mayom told Akol Yam.
Another vulnerable person, Aluel Deng, said she feels like she has “recovered her legs” after receiving a tricycle.
However, Mary Baak, director general at the ministry of social welfare, called upon the beneficiaries to maintain the tricycles.
“I want to urge those who received the tricycles to use them well so that they will not get damaged quickly,” she said.
During the distribution, Achai Wiir promised to continue supporting the people with special needs if she gets more funds.
