Aweil farmer dies saving livestock from fire

An old man reportedly died in a fire outbreak in Aweil Center County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, at the weekend.

Aleu Nyuon was trying to save his crops and livestock from the inferno at Arutdo village when he got overwhelmed by the fire, according to the police there.

Philiph Madut, the police commissioner in the county, said farmer succumbed to burns at the scene.

“We got the information and we sent a team to collect the body,” Madut told Akol Yam FM, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be known.

However, he said the authorities would launch an investigation into the fire incident.

In 2021, two children died in a similar incident at Malual Baai Payam in Aweil East County.

The police officer cautioned the public against random burning of bush.
