Police in
Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, have detained a 25-year-old
male in connection with the murder of his in-law.
The incident
occurred on October 16, 2024, in Riang-miir village.
A family
dispute claimed the life of the victim, 35-year-old Garang Nyok Deng.
The suspect,
Garang Lual Machar, was under the influence of alcohol at the time, according
to police primary investigations.
The suspect
intervened in a dispute between his aunt and her husband, triggering a fatal
altercation that ultimately resulting in death. Machar reportedly boxed Deng to
death.
Major Kharlo
Ken Ken, investigating officer, stated that the suspect is in custody and will
be brought to court after the investigation is completed.
He urged the
victim's family to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold.
Ken said: “I
would like the family of the deceased to remain calm and wait for the law to
take its course because this person was under the influence of alcohol.”
Ken urged the
public to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
