Four families in Awerial County, Lakes State, are homeless after unidentified arsonists set them on fire.

The fire incident occurred on different dates last week at Site III next to the Tomrok area in Mingkaman town.

The families, according to officials, have also been left hungry after their foodstuffs and cash were consumed by the incidents.

Witnesses say the incidents usually occurred at midnight while they were asleep.

Rebecca Akur Goi, a mother of nine, says she lost “everything” to the fire.

“I lost everything, including SSP400,000, food items, and nonfood items like mattresses,” a stressed Akur told Mingkaman on Monday. “I am suffering now from. This is a stressful situation.”

For his part, another victim, Deng Kuir Ayual, explained that the attackers had the intention to kill him.

“I was sleeping when the criminals locked the door and put the house ablaze,” he said.

He said he and his children would have died in the fire without the neighbors.

The motive behind the fire incidents remains unknown. Awerial County authorities are yet to comment on the matter.

Mingkaman is currently home to the natives and thousands of IDPs who fled floods and insecurity in Twic East County, Jonglei State.
