Armed robbers led by army deserter arrested in Kapoeta South

Six suspects, including two women, have been arrested for robbing a shop in Kapoeta South County on Saturday in Eastern Equatoria state.

The town Municipal Council said the suspects who were carrying guns were caught with some stolen items such as cooking oil.

Mayor Lokuuda Elia Lonyia stated that the ring leader of the robbers is a soldier who has allegedly deserted the army.

“We captured them with some of the items they stole. Six men and two women are the ones doing such activity in the market. They are a group, they use vehicles to carry stolen items, including 40 jerricans of cooking oil – each with 20 litres,” he stated. “We captured them having guns.”

Mayor Lokuuda added that the suspects will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.

He encouraged the public to be vigilant.
