ARC worker shot dead while constructing Torit- Kapoeta highway

A truck driver has been shot dead while on duty along the Torit- Kapoeta highway in Eastern Equatoria state.

An official says the victim is a driver for the Africa Resource Corporation, a South Sudanese road construction company.

The incident happen about 25 kilometres from Torit town in an area called Hiyala at around 4pm on Thursday.

He was reportedly killed while delivering marram for the construction of the Torit – Kapoeta road.

The State Police Commissioner, Major General James Monday Enocka said no suspect has been identified and apprehended.

He disclosed that “law enforcement agencies will find the culprits and bring them to book to allow justice to prevail for the innocent killing.”

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Ezikia. He was reportedly shot in the back.

Maj. Gen. Enocka added that plans are underway to transport the body of the late to Juba for burial.

He mentioned that security officers have been deployed along the highway to ensure safety of travellers.

In March, the State government launched a crackdown on highway banditry.
