In Aweil
Center County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, a fire incident has claimed the
life of a three-year-old child and left injuries on another.
The fire
incident occurred in Nyalath Payam on Tuesday evening when the mother left the
children unattended to prepare a meal in the adjacent hut.
Abuk Akuei
Angara, the deceased child, was trapped in the flaming house. Malou Akuei, her
brother, aged seven, sustained injuries and is still undergoing medical care.
Kur Mabior, Nyalath
police inspector, told Akol Yam FM that the mother, Aluel Aheer Akec, had been
arrested and was being investigated under Article 206 of the Penal Code.
“I want to
tell the public to take care of their children, especially mothers, when
preparing meals. It is good to be vigilant in taking care of our children,”
Mabior asserted.
He urged
parents and caregivers to be cautious when utilizing fire, especially if
children are present.
The Tuesday death
brings to four the number of children killed in similar fire incidents in
Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
