At least 7 children have drowned in Gogrial East County amid heavy rains and flash floods in Warrap state, authorities have said.
The children believed to be between the ages of 3 and 6 died in separate incidents in Maliai , Yiik, and Ador Payams.
Maluny Malueth, Gogrial East County Commissioner told Mayardit FM that most parts of the County sits in chocking water.
“Children are suffering a lot,” he stated.
Malueth said the floods have destroyed 6 market locations, schools and hospitals in the area. It has also cut off the road connecting Gogrial with Kuajok and Wau.
He added that hundreds of people have been displaced to higher grounds and along the roads.
“All the farms have been destroyed by water. We as the government are talking to NGOs for support.”
Commissioner Malueth mentioned their immediate needs are shelter and food.
Last week, Gogrial East County closed down 15 schools due to floods.
