7 cattle keepers killed in Twic County

At least 7 people have been killed and 11 others wounded following clashes between cattle keepers and armed attackers in Twic County, Warrap state on Wednesday.

The incident happened at 9AM in Ajak Kuach Payam.

Gatluak Gai is among those wounded in the fighting. He said they were attacked by people they believe are from the neighbouring Unity state. He said no animal was stolen during the attack.

“We the cattle keepers don’t know why we were attacked by the armed men. They did not even raid the cattle,” he said.

Gai added that there are fears the attackers are regrouping for another onslaught.

“The government has to intervene [because] we are now hearing that they are regrouping to attack us again for reasons we still don’t know. Should we continue dying without a response from the government?”

On Monday, 19 people were also killed after 4 vehicles were ambushed between Akertong and Toch-Lok in Mayom County.
