6 die in Juba this week, 4 of whom took their own lives

Police in Juba say they have registered at least six death cases, including four people who hanged themselves in the capital this week.

Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin said the four include a third-year student at Upper Nile University.

“Yesterday [Thursday], we had our weekly security briefing; we have cases of people who lost their lives in public places like market. We registered four cases of suicide, one of them was a student in Upper Nile University,” Justin said. “So generally, that is the situation. This week, we had like 6 cases of dead people,”

The spokesperson said the investigation is launched to established the cause of their death.

“We are investigating now because we learnt that most of them hanged themselves,” Justin stated.

Besides the four who hanged themselves, the police said one of the victims was killed in an armed robbery involving a motorbike along Juba-Bor road.The sixth body, he said, was collected on Juba bridge.

“We found dead a Sudanese person on the bridge. The body was taken to the hospital and now process [investigation] is going on to find out whether he died as a result of attack or something else,” Justin added.
