19-year-old abducted girl reunited with family in Kapoeta

A family in Kapoeta town is exhilarated after being reunited with their daughter who was kidnapped in Eastern Equatoria state.

19-year-old Nakuru Lodai was abducted in March this year from Moruarengan village in Kapoeta East County.

The teenager was taken by her abductors from the cattle camp in Napwatasigiria while her father was away collecting firewood in the nearby bushes.

“She was abducted…when they were coming from their kraal in a group of about five of them…on the way they were ambushed by criminals from our neighbors,’’ said Lokuuda Elia Lonyia, Mayor of Kapoeta Municipal Council.

Nakuru was traced through the joint efforts between the government of Eastern Equatoria state and Pibor Administrative Area.

Nakuru’s father appreciated the government for its tireless effort to reunite him with their daughter.

“I am so happy for bringing back my child. I am giving my appreciation to the authorities concern and to those who accompanied her. May they also find happiness in their respective places’’ an elated Lomint Napei Lokaliba said.

Mayor Lokuuda, however, said cases of abduction are still common in Kapoeta East. He appreciated the ongoing cooperation between the two governments to ensure abducted children are reunited with their families.

“We are here standing on behalf of the Governor (Louis Lobong) to receive this girl who was a case of abduction, and we thank the administration of Greater Pibor,’’ he stated.

The Mayor disclosed that efforts are being exerted to trace more abducted children.

Efforts to reach the authorities in Pibor Administrative area for comments were not immediately successful.
