10 killed in Twic attack

At least 10 people, including a woman with her 3-year-old child  killed this morning in Twic County by suspected armed youth “from Abyei”.

The armed youth attacked Dokkul and Awangthou villages around 2 in the morning, according to Twic County acting commissioner.

“The woman and her child died when the attackers set ablaze their hut while they were sleeping,” said Mangok Kom Nyuol, adding that six people were also wounded and some cattle raided in the attack.

Kom accused the armed youth from Abyei Administrative Area with their allies of being behind the attack, an accusation a senior official in Abyei admitted to.

Kom revealed that the wounded were receing treatments at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Mayen Abun.

In response, Chol Deng Alaak, chief of the Abyei Administrative Area confirmed the attack and promised to investigate the matter.

” We are brothers and sisters – Ngok and Twic. So I condemn it and  I am not happy about it. I will find out what happened,” he told Mayardit FM.

This month, suspected youth from Abyei were accused of injuring one person, burning down 15 houses and raiding 20 heads of cattle at Ken-kou village.
