1-day-old baby rescued from a latrine in Aweil

A n infant, whom his mother threw into a pit latrine on Wednesday morning, is receiving treatment at the Aweil Civil Hospital, a health official has said.

“We are treating a very small child at the hospital here yes this is a child that was recovered from  pit latrine this morning,” said Dr Wol Wol, medical director, adding that

The health official believes that the unnamed baby is 1-days-old, saying he was “was throwed in the latrine immediately after birth”.

They say the baby boy is “responding well to the treatment well since he was admitted”.

The mother is said to be under police custody. However, Akol Yam FM’s efforts to reach police for comment over the arrest was not immediately successful.

This is the second time a baby was recued from a pit latrine in the country this month.

On March 2, a six-day-old baby girl was reportedly retrieved from a latrine at New Site in Juba.
